Reach Out in Benicia helps youth and young adults, ages 13-30 years. Earl Miller, our California Alcohol and Drug Counselor, has helped over 5,000 Benicia youth and young adults over the past 15 years. His passion for helping our kids is heartwarming and contagious. Most of the youth that he sees are substance abusers and often in trouble with the law. Family relationships are usually strained, and often times entire families are involved in addictions. Our youth and young adults come from the full spectrum of our community - from lower income to affluent families. Substance abuse touches us all!
Our founders, Earl and Jane Miller started Reach Out in 1993 in their own home to help the many youth in our community suffering from substance abuse. Earl Miller, our Executive Director, has worked for the past 15 years with many Solano County residents who have drug and alcohol problems. He is a certified California Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADAC II), as well as an Internationally Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor (ICDAC).
I have seen the ups and downs of addiction in my work with teens and young adults. With a past like my own, there is not much I haven't experienced, and I have a heart for all who suffer with these deadly diseases. Seventeen years ago, I was blessed with recovery over my many years of drug addiction and alcoholism. I have lived these wonderful years without the use of any substance that alters who or what I am about. When I realized I could help others who suffer with the same chronic disease, I went to college to get certified as a substance abuse counselor and to get all the information I could so that I could be of assistance to those who were struggling. I graduated and went on to get certified as a California Alcohol and Drug Counselor, 6,000 intern hours, 3 and a half years, and a lot of testing. I am also an Internationally Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor. I have also in the past been certified as a Gambling Counselor and have also been an Anger Management teacher. I have been working for the last eight years as a volunteer teacher and counselor at the alternative High School in Benicia. I have always dreamed of being able to help those in need and I have made it my life goal.
